Changing direction – Migrants from university to the workplace
The project “Changing direction” (Kurswechsel) took place from 2020 to 2022, providing support for refugees preparing to enter the job market in Germany. The project offered the opportunity to rediscover one’s own skills with an experienced team, to prepare oneself sustainably for entering the labor market, and to network in order to start their professional lives strengthened and successful.
The project’s activities included: documenting and reviewing educational biographies, promoting self-organization, networking with appropriate support services, introducing digital learning, and familiarizing themselves with the German labor market.
The team designed digital learning materials for the project, which were published on the project’s online platform (C3LLO). These supported the participants to improve their knowledge of the labor market and application process, identify connecting points in the labor market and education system, and create appropriate application materials. The contents of the learning materials include: The career entry after a longer period of unemployment, the application process and relevant documents, the basics of the German education system as well as the labor law and advice on how to balance family and career.
Within the project, there was close cooperation with various partners within and outside the University of Oldenburg, including adult education in the region, the Pro:Connect association, the job centers, and also companies, which were made aware of the situation of the participants. In addition, the project cooperated with the academic advanced training course ” Pedagogical Competence in Education, Counseling, and Social Work” and the International Office at the University of Oldenburg in order to integrate the project contents long-term.
The project was successfully completed in June 2022 and the digital learning materials have been published. The learning materials can be accessed on the project website.
