Network established to promote the bio-based economy

Biotech Talent Unlocked promotes cross-border collaboration in the region “Ems-Dollart”

The “Biotech Talent Unlocked” project promotes cross-border cooperation between the Netherlands and Germany in the Ems-Dollart region. The focus is on strengthening bio-based research and businesses with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and thereby achieving the goal of the European Green Deal. One tool reach this aim is to make the existing achievements more visible and thus to retain potential employees in the region.
Project partners are:

  • BIO Cooperative B.V. als Leadpartner
  • Hanze University of Applied Science Groningen
  • NHL Stenden Hogeschool
  • 3N Kompetenzzentrum e.V. in Werlte
  • Hochschule Emden/Leer
  • Rijksuniversiteit Groningen
  • BVIO B.V (BBENG)

The first step is the formation of a cross-border network. Students can present their work in workshops and get to know institutions and companies on both sides of the border via e.g. excursions.
The exchange of students for project work or final theses between the countries is the next stage in the deepening of the network. This step is particularly important in order to prevent potential employees from leaving the region.
A further step is the establishment of joint modules, e.g. on the topic of “Production of biodiesel” or “Bioconversion of renewable raw materials”. Students from both countries can thus expand their knowledge and promote international cooperation.
Cooperation projects will introduce students from both countries to the companies and universities involved and thus provide an insight into the bio-based economy.
The establishment of an international cooperation course would be the culmination of the project.
