Room for Innovation
Interdisciplinary collaboration for start-up teams
InnoWerft creates spaces for innovation at the university:
Physical space is created by the establishment of new innovation spaces (InnoWerft).
Temporal space is created through short distances by locating innovation spaces in the departments (docks).
Content-related space is created through the strong involvement of researchers and lecturers (expert facilitators).
Interdisciplinary space is created through interdisciplinary formats.
The aim is to strengthen students, employees and professors for the topic of innovation and start-ups.
The InnoWerft project is a mono-institutional initiative, with the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer acting as both the sole applicant and project coordinator.
It is characterized by broad internal collaboration and strong regional networking with partners from business and society.
HSEL structures the project internally through a combination of:
- Scientific project leadership (Prof. Dr. Thies Pfeiffer, Faculty of Technology),
- Project staff in the areas of entrepreneurship education, startup consulting, and technical support,
- Expert Facilitators from four different departments (Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Natural Sciences, Social Work and Health), each responsible for a thematically focused startup dock.
The initiative is closely linked to the university’s MeerCommunity Startup Center, which is assigned to the university’s executive board and serves as a central competence hub for startup support.
In addition, there are cooperative relationships with regional partners from business and society, including the economic development agencies in Emden, Leer, and Harlingerland, the networks Ems-Achse, MEMA, and Greentech Ostfriesland, as well as the Innovationszentrum Niedersachsen. These partnerships are intended to support the practical implementation, networking, and market orientation of the emerging startup initiatives.

Etwa 15 Millionen Menschen in Deutschland leiden an Hörstörungen.
